CLINTON, S.C. - Presley Mabrey recorded 16 kills and Mary Trimpe
had 36 digs as host Presbyterian overcame 12 kills by Charleston
Southern freshman middle blocker Meredith Parrott as the Blue Hose
completed the season sweep over the Lady Bucs with the 25-12,
25-21, 20-25, 25-15 victory.
Sydney Tracy added 10 kills and 14 digs for the Lady Bucs
(11-17, 4-6 BSC) as CSU fell for the second time on the season to
Presbyterian (10-15, 7-3 BSC). Allison Brown added 10 kills for PC
in the win as the Blue Hose snapped CSU outside hitter Kayla
Klinger's three-match double-double streak in the win.
Charleston Southern battled back in the third set against the
Blue Hose after falling in each of the first two frames as the Lady
Bucs came out of the break behind back-to-back kills by Tracy to
take a 6-1 lead in the set. Presbyterian came back with a 9-1 run
over their own sparked by a Trimpe ace as the Blue Hose held the
lead midway through the set at 14-11 following a Mabrey kill.
The Lady Bucs fought their way back into the set, retaking the
lead at 17-16 following a kill by Erin LaVenice and the lead grew
to four at 22-18 following a solo block by Wynter Davis. The Blue
Hose cut the lead down to two at 22-20, but CSU finished the set
with the final three points capped by an ace by Siraya Windsor to
send the match to a fourth set.
Presbyterian closed out the match in the fourth frame using a
11-3 run to build a 21-10 lead following a kill by Mabrey. The Lady
Bucs fought back behind kills by Ashley Johnston, Tracy and
Parrott, but the comeback fell short as Ashtin Frank placed the
final kill in the 25-15 set victory to seal the match.
The Blue Hose came out of the gates swinging in the first set,
recording eight of the first 10 points and 20 of the first 30 as PC
had 6-0 and 9-3 runs in the set to take the early lead. Trimpe had
a pair of aces for the hosts in the set as Andrea Barman recorded
the final kill to close out the 25-12 set win.
The momentum carried over into the second set as the Blue Hose
went up 9-4 as Rachel Hall had three early kills for PC, but the
Lady Bucs rallied back behind a pair of kills by Tracy to even the
score at 9-all. The teams kept the set close the rest of the way
with PC building a late four point lead at 23-19 following a Mabrey
kill before Brown sent the teams into the break with the final kill
in the 25-21 PC set victory.
Charleston Southern hit .162 from the floor in the match as
LaVenice was among the CSU leaders with six kills on the evening.
Kirsten Struksnes and Cassidy Greer combined for 36 set assists,
while Ashley Higginbothem paced the CSU backline with a team-high
17 digs. Davis continued her standout play at the net on the season
with seven blocks on the night in the loss.
Hall finished the evening with nine kills for the Blue Hose as
host PC hit .197 from the floor in the match. Frank recorded a
match-high 42 set assists in the Presbyterian victory, while Barman
added eight kills and six blocks for the hosts.
Charleston Southern continues on the road as the Lady Bucs
travel to Rock Hill, S.C. and the Winthrop Coliseum tomorrow
afternoon as CSU takes on the Eagles. First serve between the Big
South Conference opponents is set for 2 p.m.
