CHARLESTON/>, S.C.-/> A late second half goal lifts Navy Midshipmen over CSU Lady Buccaneers 1-0 at Buccaneer Field on the campus of Charleston/> Southern Friday afternoon, in Charleston/>, S.C./>/>

The first half of the match was plagued by a lot of physical play on both sides of the ball as both teams tried to gain a strong hold on the match. As Navy continued to press and force an up tempo game CSU was there to counter their move. A physical presence was felt in the midfield as Anja Djumisic battled along side Rebecca Hollstegge to gain a lot of play for the Lady Bucs.

A few close scoring chances were had by both teams as the first half came to a close with the teams still struggling to put together enough positive possession to make a difference in the scoring column.

The second half started just as the first half ended with both teams trying to control possession in the midfield and create enough of a scoring chance to threaten either goal.

Kenandra DeSaussure got a ball from Aislinn McIlvenny then sent a cross buzzing across the box but Toni Lashley was not able to latch onto it. Navy countered that with a few close chances of their own especially when a 20 yard cross found the head of a Navy forward and caused some chaotic moments in the CSU box. Olivia Urig and Casey Bolduc searched out and interrupted many of the Midshipmen's attacks along with keeper Amy Arroyo.

As the half drew the a close both teams saw chances come and go but finally in the 84th minute Navy's Paloma Perez found her way to the endline and drove a hard ball across the face of goal that was mishandled by Arroyo and ended up in the back of the net to break the deadlock. After the goal, CSU pushed as many numbers as they could forward but could not find the back of the net. In the last seconds of the match Kenandra DeSaussure found herself in on goal, but sent a shot wide left just as the game clock expired.

The Lady Bucs will face in state foe USC-Upstate on Sunday at 3 p.m. on Buccaneer Field on the campus of Charleston/>/> Southern. Admission is free.
