CHARLESTON, S.C.- It took 77 minutes of play to find a game winning goal in the match between Francis Marion and Charleston Southern, at Buccaneer Field, Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Charleston Southern University in Charleston, S.C.

For the third straight game the Charleston Southern Lady Bucs walked away with a W in the win column. After a rocky start to the season it seems as if the Lady Bucs are picking back up where they left off last season.

Today's match was a turning point in the Lady Bucs season. The first half started off as their last match concluded, with the Lady Bucs pressuring their opponents goal with shot after shot. During the half the Lady Bucs produced 10 shot on frame coming close on a few different occassions. CSU started out of the gate with alot of intensity that disrupted the Francis Marion defense but could not find a way to break the dead lock. On the other end of play the solid ironman back four for the Lady Bucs yet againt proved up to the test. Stephanie Hand, Olivia Urig, Casey Bolduc, and Hali Singleton, kept Francis Marion at bay with alot of hard work and good tackling. The midfield battle of the first half seemed to tip in Charleston Southerns favor but the pass in the final third of the field seemed allusive. Many time during the first half you would see, usually calm and collected, Coach Eric Terrill bite his lip in frustration that his team could not connect on that final pass.

As the half wound down so did Francis Marion. Seeming to tire out, the Patriots made a few substitutions that the Lady Bucs almost capitalized on. A tremendous save late in the half, by Francis Marion, was key to keeping the score deadlocked at zero going into the intermission. A great build up by the Lady Bucs, who connected with a few different players saw a final pass reach its target of Morgann Wood in the box, who then took a touch an had a rip at goal only to be denied by an outstretched hand of FMU keeper Lauren Vetock.

The second half saw a much more physical appeal to it as both teams wanted to stake their claim on the match. CSU had a few opportunities, off of set pieces that were dangerous but could not find the net. A flighted ball by Olivia Urig into the box at the 60th minute mark saw some chaos and confusion on the FMU defense but nothing could come of the attack. In the 77th minute the hard work and pressure of CSU paid off with a goal by Toni Lashley. The play seemed broken up when all of a sudden the ball squirts out to Lashley who slots the game winner home. Lashley made amends for a previous chance that saw her come close to goal but went just wide.

After the goal CSU eased off the gas pedal and put a clamp on the game. Their solid defense all over the park earned Amy Arroyo her first clean sheet of the season and second overall for back four defenders. Coach Terrill felt "Our win today was the best we've played out of our three wins. We needed a goal early on to not let Francis Marion back into the game but we got one when we needed it. Now we need to ride this wave and take it down to The Citadel this weekend."

The Lady Bucs will be in action on Saturday, September 17th at 5 p.m., as they take on cross town rival The Citadel at Washington Light Infantry Fieldon the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
