Eagles Get Past Lady Buccaneers

CHARLESTON, S.C.: CSU dropped their 10th Big South Conference game of the season, falling to Winthrop University (25-17,25-11,25-19) on Oct. 29 in Charleston, S.C.


The Lady Buccaneers (5-22) were by led Wynter Davis who totaled seven kills on 16 total attacks (.250). Kayla Klinger recorded six kills to go along with four digs. Amy Nokes had four kills, 17 assists and eight digs while Erin LaVenice and Michaela Luna both had four kills. Nokes, Ashley Higginbothem, and Maggie Murphy each had a service ace. For the match, CSU totaled 27 kills, 25 assists and 32 digs hitting for .083 and combining for five total blocks. Becca Toor led Winthrop with 17 kills and Stephanie Palmer dished out 28 assists.


Winthrop took the first set behind Becca Toor's four kills on five attacks (.800). Stephanie Palmer had eight assists and Kristin Cruse chipped in with three digs. For the Bucs, Wynter Davis had five kills, Erin LaVenice was second with three. Amy Nokes dished out six assists followed closely by Kirsten Struksnes's five. Sydney Tracy led the dig count with four and Ashley Higginbothem had the lone Buccaneer service ace. For the set, CSU totaled 12 kills, 12 assists, 11 digs and two total team blocks.

The second set saw Kayla Klinger lead the Buc attack with three kills and two digs. Amy Nokes gave out three helpers to go along with one kill and two digs. Becca Toor led the way for WU with eight kills while Stephanie Palmer had seven assists with five kills. For the set, CSU totaled five kills on 27 total attacks, four assists, seven digs and one block.


CSU will welcome Big South Conference opponent Coastal Carolina to the CSU Fieldhouse for their last home contest of the year on Nov. 5 and 6 p.m.
