ORANGEBURG, S.C : The Lady Bucs defeated
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference leaders South Carolina State on
Oct. 25 in Orangeburg, S.C., handing the Lady Bulldogs their first
home loss of the season.
The Lady Bucs (5-20) were led by Wynter Davis who had 13 kills,
seven block assists, and three digs. Amy Nokes gave out 18 helpers
and dug up seven. Ashley Higginbothem led the way with 13 digs and
Sydney Tracy had three service aces. SCSU was led by Desire
Waller's 16 kills and Bria Brimmer's 34 assists. For the game, CSU
had 38 kills, 37 assists, 44 digs and 13 total blocks.
CSU took the first set 25-20 behind four kills from Wynter Davis on
eight total attacks (.375). Amy Nokes and Kirsten Struksnes both
dished out four assists and Ashley Higginbothem led the way with
three digs. Sydney Tracy and Wynter Davis both notched three block
assists. Kayla Klinger added to her CSU leading service ace count,
recording two in set one. SCSU was led by Shabree Roberson with
three kills and Bria Brimmer with 10 assists. As a team, CSU
totaled nine kills on 28 total attacks, eights assists, 11 digs and
five total blocks.
CSU dropped the second set 25-14 and were led by Wynter Davis
who recorded six kills on 14 total attempts, two digs and four
block assists. Amy Nokes gave out seven assists followed closely by
Kirsten Stuksnes's six. Nokes also notched four digs, Kayla Klinger
matched that by digging up four of her own. SCSU was led by Peri
Ligons's six kills and Bria Brimmer's 19 assists. For the set, CSU
totaled 15 kills on 50 total attacks, 14 assists, 17 digs and six
team blocks.
The Lady Bucs took the third set 25-20 thanks to nine Wynter
Davis kills. Amy Nokes had 11 assists and five digs, while Ashley
Higginbothem led the way for the third set in a row with 10 digs,
Sydney Tracy and Morgan Hadden both had five kills. Desire Waller
led the SCSU attack with 12 kills and Bria Brimmer dished out 26
assists. As a team, CSU recorded 28 kills, 27 assists, 30 digs and
nine total team blocks.
Wynter Davis led the Bucs to victory in the fourth set with four
kills and three blocks. Amy Nokes had seven assists and two digs.
CSU had 10 kills, 10 assists and 14 digs in the final set.
Next, CSU will welcome Presbyterian College to Buc Dome on Oct.
28 at 7 p.m for a Big South Conference showdown.
