ASHEVILLE, N.C. - A gorgeous sunny afternoon in the mountains of North Carolina saw the UNC Asheville Bulldogs take a hard fought match from the visiting Charleston Southern Buccaneers, 5-0 at Greenwood Field in Asheville, N.C.

The first half of the match started at a frantic pace as both teams tried to assert their game plan in the match. A first minute goal by the Bulldogs came as Amanda Knapp found herself with a breakaway which she slotted her shot past a diving CSU's Amy Arroyo in goal. Looking to rebound from this goal CSU committed numbers forward and was caught off guard as Asheville got their second of the match from header by Leilani Halkiotis in the 11th minute of play. CSU then had to chase the game trying to push numbers forward. Toni Lashley found herself in on goal only to have her shot saved by Bulldog keeper Heather Muller. As the half wound down CSU still went searching for that allusive goal to bring the game back within reach but could not find it before the intermission.

The second half started out with CSU high pressuring the Bulldogs trying to get a goal to get back into the game. In the 61st minute Aislinn McIlvenny made a darting run down the right side and got in behind the Bulldog defense. McIlvenny got in the box and pulled back a cross to Toni Lashley but a misplayed shot by Lashley was sent wide.
Just when the Bucs were on the front foot, Asheville came back down the field and played a dangerous cross into the box that hit the crossbar and dropped to the feet of Ferriss Roberts, who hit a one time shot past CSU keeper Amy Arroyo. The fourth goal for the Bulldogs came as Arroyo was caught off her line and Amanda Knapp snuck in to play the ball around Arroyo and into the net. The final Bulldog goal came from Leilani Halkiotis with a cannon shot from about 25 yards out that went into the upper 90 of Arroyo's net past Arroyo's outstretched hands. The game came to an end as CSU moved to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in the Big South Conference.

The CSU Lady Bucs look to rebound from this hard fought match as they travel to Conway, S.C. to take on Coastal Carolina on Tuesday, October 18th at 6 p.m. in a pivotal Big South match.
