CHARLESTON S.C. - Charleston Southern won in dramatic fashion today when senior striker Marky Boyce put in a game winner in the dying moments to give the Bucs the 2-1 victory over the Lancers from Longwood. The win improves the Buc's record to a mark of 6-4-0 and the loss drops Longwood to a record of 7-5-0.

The game started off at a slow pace, with neither team able to muster a shot on goal until 15 minutes through the first half. Possession was highly contested throughout midfield and it seemed like neither team could get their bearings. The game began to open up toward the end of the first half.

The deadlock was broken in the 25th minute when Lindsey Ottavio tracked down a rebound in front of net and put a shot past the CSU keeper. It was her 11th goal of the season so far, putting her amongst the leaders in the NCAA for goals scored.

Down a goal, the Bucs began to assert themselves on offense in pursuit of the equalizer, pushing further and further forward on the attack.

In the 55th minute CSU sent a deep ball into the box from the central midfield. The ball was initially misplayed by the Lancers back line. Longwood's central defender gave chase and inadvertently knocked it down with her arm inside the box and the referee subsequently awarded the Bucs a penalty kick.

Freshman Emma Krantz placed the ball on the spot and waited for the referee's whistle. She proceeded to make a calm and collected finish past the Lancers' keeper. The match was back on level terms.

The stalemate continued throughout the second half and the match seemed to be destined for extra time. That was until Senior Caitlin Wesnesky played a ball to fellow senior Marky Boyce from the middle of the field. With the final seconds of regulation ticking away, Boyce evaded several defenders in front of goal and created enough space to fire off a shot that found the back of the net with only one second to spare on the game clock. An absolutely astounding finish to a hard fought contest. It was her 11th goal and 4th game winner on the season. Boyce is also among the NCAA leaders in goals scored this season.

"It's a huge win for us; Longwood is a very talented team. We have had a really tough schedule, but again they are one of the tougher teams." Said head coach Eric Terrill. "They have done really well against Big South opponents, and having the opportunity to beat them, we have to be grateful for that."

When asked about the dramatic fashion of the win Coach Terrill responded:

"I have to admit, I don't know if every coach has the same experience, but we've have had a lot of last second wins in my career, but it's just one of those you have to put up there at the top of the list."

The Bucs look to ride the momentum off their remarkable win in the waning seconds into a conference slate that commences with a match against preseason favorite Liberty on Saturday. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m. at Buccaneer field.
