ANNAPOLIS, M.D. - The Bucs won their opening match of the Navy Invitational Tournament Friday night when they defeated tournament host Navy 2-1. The win came in dramatic fashion off a golden goal from Bucs' senior midfielder Caitlin Wesnesky in the second frame of over time. The win brings the Bucs record to an overall mark of 4-2-0 on the season.

The Bucs were controlling the early action, not allowing the midshipmen even a sniff at goal until the 18th minute. Navy's first shot came off of a corner and was blocked sending the Bucs were on the counter attack. Freshman Allison Lewis sent a long pass to a streaking Marky Boyce who punched it home for the Bucs to take a 1-0 lead. It was her ninth of the season thus far.

Navy brought the match back to level terms when senior forward Christine Calderon found the back of the net in the 22nd minute.

The match remained level throughout the remainder of regular time.

The Bucs entered their second overtime session of the season looking to score the golden goal and take the win.

In the second overtime Rebecca Hollstege made a pass outside to Boyce who then put a ball towards goal that found Caitlin Wesnesky. Wesnesky put a shot on goal that the keeper couldn't handle and the subsequent rebound fell to her feet and she put it away, giving the Bucs the 2-1 double overtime win in dramatic fashion. This was Wesnesky's third goal of the season and the Bucs second golden goal on the year. Both Hollstege and Boyce were credited with assists on the goal.

"Tonight was a great match and really could have gone either way. They were certainly a quality opponent," said coach Eric Terrill. "Boyce came up huge as she always does and Amy Arroyo was very solid in goal for us tonight. She made some really key saves," he continued.

This win marks the second straight year that the Bucs have defeated a foe that was ranked in the top ten in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll. Last year the Bucs defeated the Spiders of Richmond University when they were ranked in the top ten in the same poll. Wins such as these will continue to bolster the Bucs' status as a topflight soccer program.

Boyce continues on her record setting pace with 9 goals in just 6 games. If she continues at this rate she may come close to CSU's record for most goals in a season held by Wendy Ennis with a total of 21. She has scored in all 6 games this season and 7 straight including last year in the Big South Conference tournament.

This was a huge win for the Bucs to get back to their winning ways and open the weekend with a victory.

The tournament continues with a match against Towson at noon on Sunday to conclude the Navy Invitational Tournament.
