HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - CSU Men's Basketball Head Coach Barclay
Radebaugh's thoughts following the Buccaneers' 70-64 defeat to
Austin Peay Friday, Nov. 26 in the Chicago Invitational
Challenge.
Coach Radebaugh
On his initial reaction to the game:
I thought it was a performance that we'll look back on and
learn from, for sure. We continue to struggle defensively; we
continue to struggle on the boards. It's something we're going to
have to really go and look back on film and see. I thought we got
off to a pretty poor start. I thought the second half, once again,
we played really, really well. We had the ball, down four, and
Sheldon turns it over. We're just lacking some fundamentals in some
areas, lacking a little bit of grit on the defensive end and on the
boards.
On whether the team got to its game during the second
half:
Well, I think we did that offensively. We shot the ball
extremely well in the second half. It's just defensively getting
back and getting stops. We're struggling there. That's the third
straight game, or fourth straight game that we've allowed a team to
shoot over 50 percent from the floor, and you just can't win
consistently like that. We have to really look at what we're doing,
and how we're playing, make some adjustments, and tinker with it a
little bit, getting ready to play tomorrow.
On corrections going forward:
Well, the first thing we have to get corrected is, we're
kidding ourselves if think we don't need to get the defense and
rebounding corrected. Regardless of what level you play, or who
you're playing against, if you allow teams to shoot that percentage
consistently, then we've got some problems. We'll have to go back
on the film tonight and look and see what we can correct very
quickly.
On the extended road trip:
It's hurting us that we haven't had practice days. We haven't
had a practice day since before The Citadel. And we need a couple
good practice days. We have to improve tonight, look at it, and
evaluate, and see if we can come out tomorrow and get a big
win.
On the team's need for defense and rebounding in order to
get its fast break going:
We didn't get our press going, and we had to back our press
off. That's not how we want to play, and you have to get stops to
be able to run. We have to keep working.
