PREVIEW
CSUhas opened the 2009 campaign with a 2-0 record after taking
down Georgia Southern 2-1 and Alabama State 14-0. This is the first
time since 2006 the Lady Bucs have been able to win their first two
games of the season. CSU will look to improve that record to 3-0
when they play host to University of South Carolina-Upstate at 4
p.m. Tuesday at Buccaneer Field.
The Spartans are 0-2 this year, having lost both games to Navy
and Furman University by identical 3-0 scores.
USC-Upstate finished last year with a 3-16 mark, and a 1-10
record in the Atlantic Sun Conference. One of those three wins came
Aug. 25 in a 2-1 victory over Charleston Southern.
The Spartans return three goal scorers from last season in
Crystal Hackett (1g-2a=4p), Alyssa Roegner (1g-1a=3a) and Catherine
Nolff (1g-0a=2a). Hackett assisted on the game-winning goal against
the Buccaneers last season. Kelsey Shinn leads the team in shots
through two games this year with four, and no other player has more
than one.
The Spartans have used two goalkeepers this season, and they
have both played a game each in net. Sian Jenkins and Brittany
Daughtry are both 0-1 and have both allowed three goals. Daughtry
has 14 saves and Jenkins has five.
The Buccaneers combat the Spartan attack with 16 goals through
two games and a whole lot of offense.
Jen Vroman leads the way for CSU with four goals. Marky Boyce
and Morgann Wood are both coming off hat-tricks against Alabama
State, and they both have three goals this year. Vroman and Boyce
are tied for the team lead with eight points, and Wood is right
behind them with seven of her own.
Sarah Catenacci (2g-1a=5p) is the other Buc to have scored
multiple goals.
