Box score

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Marky Boyce and Morgann Wood each recorded hat-tricks to lead the Charleston Southern soccer team to a 14-0 victory over Alabama State University Friday evening at a rain-soaked Buccaneer Field.

Both players also recorded an assist for CSU (2-0-0), finishing with seven points each.

The game was initially delayed due to lightning in the area, and was finally called in the 71st minute due to a return trip from the inclement weather.

Boyce and Wood led the charge for CSU, but other Lady Bucs made huge contributions. Sarah Catenacci scored twice and added an assist, and Jen Vroman scored two more goals to add on to the two she scored in the opening game of the season against Georgia Southern University. It was the second two-goal game of her career, and the second in as many games. She has already doubled her previous career high for goals in a single season.

Olivia Urig notched her first-career point with an assist in the 15th minute. She later added another assist and her first-career goal to end the game with four points.

Michelle Dennis had two assists all of last season, and she matched that number against the Hornets (0-1). She also added a goal in the 32nd minute. Both Caitlin Wesnesky and Rebecca Hollstegge had a goal and an assist, with Hollstegge recording her first-career points.

Emily Danchak and Alicyne Smith each picked up assists, and it was Danchak's second-career assist and Smith's first-career point.

Alyssa Budros played the first half in net for CSU. Jena Lalich started the second half and played 22:17, and Amy Arroyo finished out the last 2:52. Veronique Lamontagne played all 70:09 in net for the Hornets, and she recorded 22 saves.

Charleston Southern set single game school records for most goals scored (14), most assists (11), most points (39) and least shots faced (0).

Next up for the Buccaneers is a Sept. 1 meeting with the University of South Carolina-Upstate. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Buccaneer Field.
