CSU Falls in Hard Fought Battle

CSU Lady Buccaneer soccer team (3-2) fell to Long Island University (4-1-1) in their game Friday night in Brooklyn, but it was a hard fought battle to the end. The LIU Lady Blackbirds came out early with a shot attempt only three and half minutes into the game, and the Lady Bucs responded with a shot attempt seven minutes later by Briana Murphy, her first of three shots for the game. Murphy was followed by shot attempts from Mattsson and Wesnesky, who would both end the game with two shot attempts. At the end of the first period the Lady Bucs had out shot LIU 6-4, with both teams scoreless.

The second period opened with fast paced goals from both teams. Lady Bucs' Michelle Dennis scored the first goal less than two minutes into the period, which would be the only CSU goal of the game. The Lady Blackbirds responded with a corner kick goal a minute and half later followed by another goal at the 39:32 mark. The Lady Bucs were quick to respond with a wide shot attempt by Emma Mattsson. A little over a minute later, a corner kick by LIU at the 36:23 mark would be the final goal scored of the game.

The Lady Bucs continued to fight in the second half of the period with another four shot attempts by juniors Jen Vroman and Sarah Catenacci, along with sophomore Caitlin Wesnesky and freshman Casey Buldoc. The game ended with two corner kicks by the Lady Bucs and two Yellow Cards on the LIU Lady Blackbirds.

The Lady Buccaneers are back in action in New York on Sunday, September 14 (12 noon) at Wagner University where they will look to add to their win column before leaving the Northeast.
