Charleston, SC- The Lady Bucs tied their second straight game
this afternoon against the Lady Eagles of Winthrop University with
a final score of 1-1. The game would be a back and forth between
the two teams as neither was able to claim a clear advantage.
Despite the battle for control of the ball, the Lady Bucs would
b e the first to put points on the board when junior midfielder
Jen Vroman would put the ball into the net from outside the 18 yard
box, giving Vroman her second goal of the season.
The remainder of the first half would be much of the same. The
Lady Eagle would try to gain an advantage by rotating in fresh
players in multiple substitutions, by the half would end with CSU
up 1-0.
The second half would start much of the same, with both teams
battling for control and a chance to gain the upperhand. The Lady
Eagles would show they were not out of the game by scoring their
first goal of the game in the 55th minute of play tying the game at
1-1. Determined to pull past the Eagles, the Lady Bucs stepped up
with seven shot attempts, 5 shots on goal, but would be unable to
set anymore in the goal. Regulation would end with a tie score of
1-1.
The first overtime would start with a yellow card on the Eagles
and a blocked shot attempt form Winthrop's Chelsea White. The Lady
Bucs would look to take the game in sudden death when senior Emma
Mattsson would score a goal that would overturned by an offsides
call against CSU.
With only 10 more minutes to take the lead in the second
overtime, the Lady Bucs would tally another 4 shot attempts to the
Eagles' one, but neither team would be able to pull ahead.
The Lady Bucs tallied a total of 16 shot attempts and 8 corner
kicks to Winthrop's 13 and 3 respectively in the contest. CSU
keeper Alyssa Budros would tally another 2 saves to bring her
season total to 40 (.755).
The Lady Bucs will be back in action on October 25 to take on
UNC Asheville at 1 pm at home.
