CHARLESTON, S.C. - A pair of goals in each half paced Winthrop University to a 4-1 Big South Conference women's soccer victory over Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon at Buccaneer Field. CSU's Sarah Catenacci brought the Buccaneers to within a goal in the 55th minute, but two second-half Eagle goals within five minutes produced the final margin.

Winthrop improves to 10-4-2 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play, while CSU drops to 3-9-2 and remains winless in the Big South in five tries.

Eagle forward Ashley Hallmon produced the first score at four minutes. Jennifer Hensley fired a free kick from the center circle, clearing a defensive wall to find Hallmon open less than ten feet from the net. Carolyn Quarles scored against a shorthanded CSU defense--Jessica Kim came off the field after a pass ricocheted off her face--with two minutes left in the first period.

Catenacci's was the first goal of the second period. Emma Mattson crossed from the right side and Catenacci crossed up the Winthrop keeper and found the back of the net.

Hallmon netted her second goal in the 63rd minute, outracing the CSU defender on a breakaway and clearing the charging keeper. Erin Foote scored the final goal after assisting the third goal.

Charleston Southern plays again at home Wednesday against Coastal Carolina at 3 p.m.
