FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women's golf team advanced to match play at the Big South Women's Golf Championship after winning a thrilling three-way playoff for the four seed. The tournament was played at Ocean Creek Golf Course at Fripp Island Resort, a par-72 layout measuring 6,032 yards.
Charleston Southern tied with Radford and Winthrop at 922 after three rounds of stroke play, but won the three-way tiebreaker by one stroke to secure the No. 4 seed and advance to match play. The Buccaneers will face No. 1 seed High Point in the semifinal round.
Eugenie Varet led the way for the Buccaneers, tying for fifth overall with a three-round total of 220 (4-over par). She carded rounds of 74, 73, and 73, delivering consistent play across all three rounds to finish among the tournament's top performers. Varet's top-five finish earned her a spot on the Big South All-Championship Team.
Katie Stephens also turned in a strong showing, tying for seventh at 224 (8-over par). Stephens closed in impressive fashion with a final-round 67 (5-under par), tied for the lowest round of the tournament, to move into the top 10.
IY Ibnu finished tied for 27th overall at 240 (24-over par) after rounds of 84, 77, and 79, while Summer Griffiths tied for 36th at 250 (34-over par) with scores of 86, 84, and 80.
Chayse Cool rounded out the lineup, finishing 39th with a three-round total of 253 (37-over par), posting rounds of 78, 80, and 95.
As a team, Charleston Southern opened with a 312 before carding a 311 in the second round and closing strong with a 299 in the final round to earn a spot in match play at the Big South Championship.
