CHARLESTON, S.C. – While most of the Palmetto state was frosted courtesy of Winter Storm Enzo, the Charleston Southern men's basketball traveled to Clinton, South Carolina to battle the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College.
Taje' Kelly won his third Big South Player of the Week award days before the PC matchup, as Wednesday night would be his first contest back on top of the individual power ranking.
The scrappy and often underestimated Blue Hose squad is led by Kory Mincy and Kobe Stewart. The duo combined for 32 of Presbyterian's 71 points Wednesday night.
One thing that remained consistent from opening tip to the final buzzer in the Buccaneer-Blue Hose contest was Presbyterian making tough shots. Head Coach Quinton Ferrell's squad shot 55.6% from the floor, a mark they have only achieved five times all season.
Although the Bucs saw three players reach double figures: Taje' Kelly (19), Daylen Berry (14), Reis Jones (12), and RJ Johnson barely missed the threshold (9). Berry also secured a double-double performance as the Raleigh, North Carolina native snagged 10 boards.
Injuries still continue to plague the CSU roster as again tonight, only seven players saw the court.
Presbyterian's outstanding shooting performance was not matched by the 37.9% shooting Bucs, resulting in a 61-71 loss for the Lowcountry.
Luckily for CSU, an opportunity to pick up another league win is quickly approaching. UNC Asheville will arrive at the Buc Dome Saturday afternoon for a 3:30, ESPN+ broadcasted, conference competition.
