BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - After a 34-point fourth quarter, the Charleston Southern women's basketball team was able to claim their second-straight victory on Wednesday, completing the season sweep of the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs by a 76-69 final score inside Paul Porter Arena.
Catherine Alben had 16 fourth quarter points, and 26 overall, to lead the Bucs (9-15, 6-5 in conf.) to their second-straight victory.
Jordan Berry added a season-high 16 points and eight fourth-quarter points.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (4-20, 3-8 in conf.) jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and forced a Buccaneer timeout. Then, the Bucs were able to work their way back, tying the game at the end of the first quarter with a three pointer by Alben.
After being down 20-17 with 3:09 left in the second quarter, the Bucs got a three pointer from
Shimei Muhammad to tie the game and go on a run, taking a 25-22 lead into the locker room.
Gardner-Webb controlled most of the third quarter, outscoring the Bucs 23-17 and taking a 45-42 lead, but the Bucs continued to fight with another three by Alben. Then, the Runnin' Bulldogs went on a run, stretching their lead to seven points with 7:24 left to go.
Then, an 8-0 run by the Bucs gave them a 53-52 lead thanks to
Keshunti Nichols with 5:52 left. Down the stretch, the Bucs made 15 free throws to down the Runnin' Bulldogs and pick up their first win inside Paul Porter Arena since 2017.
The Bucs made 26 free throws on Wednesday night, which was the most in one game since 2010 against Coastal Carolina. Alben was 10/12 from the line.
Madison Adamson was the leading rebounder with nine, and
Keshunti Nichols had 12 points. Charleston Southern shot just over 40% overall from the field and were 8/23 from beyond the arc.

The Bucs hit the road once again this weekend, as they travel to Asheville for a rematch with the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, who beat Charleston Southern 62-59 back in January. Tip-off is a 2 PM on Saturday. This will be the first of a doubleheader, as the men play at UNC Asheville as well.
