Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Kelly Goes for 25 as CSU Falls to Neighboring SC State

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Orangeburg, South Carolina would be the location for game number 12 of the 2024-25 men's basketball season. The Bucs would travel roughly an hour down the road to take on the South Carolina State Bulldogs, a team they only lost to by two points last season.

A slow start would haunt the Bucs all evening as early shooting difficulty would send CSU to the halftime locker room down 14 points.

The rebounding column is an area that Charleston Southern has dominated all season, and that domination continued against the Bulldogs. CSU would out-rebound SC State 39-33.

Three point shooting ability has been inconsistent thus far through the season for the Bucs, and against SC State, the shots were simply not falling. Out of 16 three-point attempts, the Buccaneers would only see two go through the hoop. Turnovers would also plague the Bucs in Orangeburg as CSU would turn the ball over 17 times to the Bulldogs' five.

The Bucs' slow start would not get much better as they would eventually fall 63-81 to South Carolina State.

Out of the 63 CSU points, 25 were courtesy of last week's Big South Player of the Week, Taje' Kelly. Kelly would also pull down ten rebounds, earning him his third double-double of the regular season. Reis Jones would also post a solid stat line as the junior big man would record 15 points and seven rebounds of his own.

Head Coach Saah Nimley's Buccaneers have a bit of a playing break as their next contest will not be played until Dec. 19th when they will take on the Lions of North Alabama in Florence, AL.
