Bucs Notch First Win Over Radford in Seven Years

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – For the first time since 2017, the Charleston Southern women's basketball team took down the Radford Highlanders, as they did it in dominating fashion by a score of 73-58 on Wednesday night in The Buc Dome. The Highlanders (10-12, 6-2 in conference) had won the previous 12 games against the Buccaneers (7-14, 4-4 in conference).

Charleston Southern got things started in the first quarter, as they raced out to a 13-6 lead with a Shimei Muhammad fast-break three pointer with six minutes left in the first quarter. The Bucs took the momentum into the second quarter. After the Highlanders cut it to two, the Bucs got hot from beyond the arc. Catherine Alben hit a three pointer to put Charleston Southern up by five, and Alba Garcia came back with back-to-back three pointers, as the Bucs finished the half on an 8-0 run to go up by 16 points.

Out of the second half, the Highlanders kept fighting, outscoring the Bucs 25-15 in the third quarter. Muhammad hit another three to put Charleston Southern up by 18 points with 4:55 to go in the third quarter. After that, the Highlanders went on a 14-2 run entering the final quarter.

Radford cut it to five with 3:32 left, as they hit a jumper to trim the Bucs lead to 61-56,  but the Bucs found success in the paint late, as Madison Adamson, Kennedi Jackson and Keshunti Nichols all knocked down lay ups to push the Buccaneer lead to 12 with 1:43 to go.

The Bucs tied a season-high with 23 free throws attempted converting 16 of them, including an impressive 11/13 from the line in the fourth quarter. Charleston Southern was 7/16 from beyond the arc and shot 49.0% overall from the field. Tonight also tied a season high in steals, as the Bucs had 11 overall.

Four different Buccaneers scored in double digits on the night. Alben was the leading scorer with 21, while Adamson had 15, Jackson had 13 and Nichols had 11. Adamson was just one rebound away from a double-double, finishing with nine boards on the night.
