Box Score ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND - The Charleston Southern women's soccer team opened the season against the Naval Academy on Thursday, dropping their first match of the 2023 campaign by a score of 2-1.
The Naval Academy (1-0) scored quickly, attacking the Charleston Southern goal within the first 10 minutes of the match to take a 1-0 lead. Then,
Fiama Hidalgo netted the first goal of the season for the Bucs (0-1) on a corner kick in the 40
th minute to tie things at one.
Daniela Contreras had the assist.
Navy continued their aggressiveness on offense, as they mustered up 20 shots compared to three from the Bucs. They had nine shots on goal compared to CSU's one, which was the goal from Hidalgo.
Claire Deangelis and
Reese Beggs were the others to put up a shot.
In the 65
th minute, Navy broke the 1-1 draw with a goal to make it 2-1.
Jenna Moran had seven saves on the night.
