CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern men's basketball team ended the 2022-23 regular season on Saturday with an 85-59 route of the Presbyterian Blue Hose.
Five different Buccaneers had double-digit scoring nights, as
Tahlik Chavez led the way with 19 points on 5/9 shooting,
Claudell Harris Jr. had 17 points on 7/9 shooting,
Tyeree Bryan had 15 points and
Kalib Clinton and
RJ Johnson both had 10.
Prior to tonight's game, Charleston Southern honored both of its seniors who were potentially playing at the Buc Dome for the final time;
Imajae Dodd and
Cheikh Faye.
First Half
The Bucs (9-20, 5-13 in conference) started the game off on a 10-2 run. A three-pointer by Johnson made sealed the run with 17:07 left in the first half. The Blue Hose cut it to within two, but the Bucs answered with a 15-2 run of their own starting with a four-point play by Chavez.
The Bucs pushed the lead to 20 points with a three-pointer by R.J. Duhart with 7:47 left to make it 32-12. the lead got to as high as 22, and the Bucs took an 18-point lead into halftime with a pair of free throws by Chavez. CSU was 6/11 from beyond the arc in the first half and shot 55.17% overall.
Second Half
The Blue Hose came out firing in the second half, as they cut the deficit to 12 points with 17:20 left, and 10 points midway through the second half. The Bucs found their groove again with a dunk by Harris Jr. with 8:26 left to make it 64-51. That started a 9-0 run that stretched the lead back up to 20 with 5:52 left. Four different Bucs scored during that run.
The momentum continued for the Bucs, as they used a 14-4 run to stretch the lead to 30 points at 85-55 with 1:28 left.

The Big South Tournament awaits Charleston Southern, who will go into Charlotte, N.C. as the No. 9 seed the No. 8 seed High Point. The tournament begins on Wednesday, as the Bucs play at 6 p.m. with the game streaming on ESPN+.
