Fighting Camels Complete Season Sweep of Bucs

CHARLESTON, S.C. - After a low-scoring first quarter, the Campbell Fighting Camels could not miss from beyond the arc, dominating the Charleston Southern women's basketball team 75-48 at the Buc Dome on Wednesday night.

In a first quarter that saw just nine total points, the Fighting Camels (14-12, 9-6 in conference) pulled away in the final three quarters. Catherine Alben led the Bucs with 16 points, getting to the line 10 times and knocking down seven free throws. Kennedi Jackson was right behind her with 13 points and seven rebounds on 4/10 shooting.

First Half
Both teams got the night starting by knocking down shots on their opening possession. After the Fighting Camels knocked down a three, Jazmine Jackson hit a two-point jump shot to make it 3-2. That would be the only field goal that the Bucs (4-22, 2-13 in conference) would knock down until the 5:34 mark of the second quarter, when Saniya Jones scored on a layup. That ended a 7-0 Campbell run to make it 13-5.

Campbell's lead was as high as 16 late in the first half, but Jazmine Jackson hit a jumper as time expired as the Fighting Camels took a 28-14 lead into the locker room.

Second Half
In the second half, the Bucs were able to narrow the margin when Alba Garcia knocked down a three to cut the deficit to 11, but the Fighting Camels went on another run, pushing their lead to as high as 22 points in the third quarter.

The lead got to as high as 34 points in the fourth quarter, as the Fighting Camels could not miss from beyond the arc. They were 5/8 from the three-point line in the fourth quarter and 12/29 overall. After starting out just 1/9 from three, they finished the night 11/20. They shot 41.9% overall from the field compared to the Bucs shooting just 25.5%.

Next Up
The Bucs are back on the road this Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup with the Winthrop Eagles. This will be the second matchup with them this season, as the Bucs look to complete the season sweep.
