Garcia Scores Career-High 19 Points Versus No. 18 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Charleston Southern women's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season on Monday night, falling on the road to No. 18 Florida State Seminoles by a 99-63 score.
 
Alba Garcia was the leading scorer for the Bucs (0-1) with a career-high 19 points. The sophomore came off of the bench and played a career-high 21 minutes as well. Kennedi Jackson was the second leading scorer with 11 points, and Catherine Alben had nine.
 
Charleston Southern won the rebounding battle against Florida State (1-0) 47 to 41. Madison Adamson led the team with eight rebounds, while Shimei Muhammad was right behind her with seven.
 
The Bucs started off slow, as the Seminoles jumped out to an 11-2 lead and pushed their lead to 12 with 5:41 left in the first quarter. The run ended with four-straight points from Charleston Southern capped off with a three by Muhammad.
 
The Seminoles pushed their lead to 25 before Garcia came back with two-straight three pointers to trim the lead; however, FSU kept attacking, pushing their lead to 33 points at the half.
 
Florida State continued their momentum out of the half, starting the third quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 40-point lead before a jumper from Jackson ended the run; however, their lead changed to 43 points with 5:50 left in the third quarter at 70-27.
 
After the media timeout, the Bucs went on their own 10-0 run with two free throws from Adamson and two from Jordan Berry. The Seminole lead got to as high as 40 in the fourth quarter, ending in a 36-point loss for the Bucs.
 
Charleston Southern was 17-22 from the free throw line, which is a 77% free throw percentage. That is one percent below their season-high of 78% from the line against Longwood in the Buc Dome on January 28th of last season.
