CLEMSON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team saw their record drop to 0-2 on Friday, as they fell to the Clemson Tigers by a final score of 85-55.
The Buccaneers had a 3-2 lead after a Catherine Alben three pointer. After that, it was all Tigers, who went on a 23-5 run to close out the quarter. The Bucs turned the ball over eight times. Charleston Southern got the second quarter started with a steal from Alben, who took it the other way for two points. Both teams were back-and-forth throughout the quarter, as the Bucs were outscored 19-16 by the Tigers.
The Bucs turned it over 14 times in the first half leading to 19 points for the Tigers. Clemson also outrebounded the Bucs 22-16. Alben led Charleston Southern with 12 points on 5/10 shooting and 2/2 from beyond the arc. She also was the leading rebounder with four.
After trading baskets for most of the third quarter, the Clemson lead got to as high as 28 points, but the Bucs were able to finish the quarter with back-to-back layups from Kennedi Jackson and Maya Robinson.
Charleston Southern played a much cleaner game in the second half, cutting their turnovers in half. They turned it over 21 times throughout the game leading to 31 points the other way. The Bucs were outrebounded tonight 42-36.
After being outscored 26-8 in the first quarter, the Bucs were outscored 59-47 the rest of the way. Alben was the leading scorer with 16 points, while Madison Adamson was the leading rebounder with 11. Jackson added 10 points, and Alba Garcia had seven.
Charleston Southern shot 31.4% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc. The team forced 14 turnovers (seven in each half), as Alben stole the ball five times, and Shimei Muhhamad had three steals.
