CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women's basketball team lost to the College of Charleston Cougars on Friday night at the Buc Dome by a 70-60 score.
The Cougars (2-1) outscored the Bucs (0-4) 20-9 in the fourth quarter to take a 10-point victory. Charleston Southern had four players score double digits, as
Kennedi Jackson led the way with 17 points.
Madison Adamson and
Shimei Muhammad were both one rebound away from a double-double, as both players had nine rebounds. Adamson had 11, and Muhammad and
Catherine Alben both had 10.
The score was tied at 51 entering the fourth quarter until College of Charleston nailed down three-straight free throws to take a 56-53 lead with 5:14 left. The lead got up to five points, but a jumper by Adamson made it 58-55 with 2:43 left in regulation. After that, Charleston Southern was outscored 12-5 the rest of the way.
Charleston Southern jumped out to a four-point lead, as
Keshunti Nichols scored three-straight points to make it 12-8 midway through the opening quarter, but the Cougars were able to tie it up at 18 to end the first quarter.
The Bucs got hot to begin the second quarter, holding the Cougars scoreless for the until the 5:41 mark. Charleston Southern went on an 8-0 run during that time, with Jackson scoring four of those points and pushed the lead back up to six, but the Cougars went on a little run to end the quarter and cut the deficit to one point at intermission.
Adamson drained a three pointer with 3:30 to go in the third quarter to give the Bucs their largest lead of the second half at six points, but the Cougars cut the deficit to just a point to enter the final quarter.
The Bucs turned it over a season-high 32 times on the night compared to just 15 times from the Cougars. C of C took advantage of the Buccaneer turnovers by turning them into 38 points. The Bucs shot a season-low 64.3% from the free throw line compared to 77.8% for the Cougars.

Charleston Southern hits the road one more time before Thanksgiving Day, as they head to Conway, S.C. to take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. It will be the first time that these two teams have faced off since 2016.
