Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Chavez Leads with 22 in Wire-To-Wire Battle with Longwood

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball again found themselves in a contest coming down to the final few possessions of the game Wednesday night. Longwood used a strong second half effort to top CSU, 79-74, at the Buc Dome on the campus of Charleston Southern.

CHAVEZ LETS IT FLY
Tahlik Chavez continues to shoot the ball well at home, finishing the contest with a game-high 22 points on 7-10 shooting from three-point land. Three of those seven treys came in the final 70 seconds of play, giving the Bucs a shot at forcing free basketball down the stretch.

OFF TO A GREAT START
Charleston Southern got off to a great start Wednesday night, shooting just under 46% from the field while taking a two-point advantage into the midway break. The Bucs led by as much as 10 in the early going after Claudell Harris Jr. converted three opportunities from the charity stripe. The advantage was five with a handful of ticks left in the half before Longwood hit a three at the buzzer to cut the CSU advantage to just two at the break.

AT HIGH VOLUMES
Charleston Southern continues to turn in impressive performances from the floor, especially at the Buc Dome as tonight's numbers continued that trend. The Bucs shot 46% in the first half and followed that up with a 48% output in the final half. The charity stripe has been a place of emphasis for CSU as well, as the Buccaneers finished 14-16 as a team. Five of the six Bucs that made trips to the line finished unblemished.

DOUBLE FIGURES
Charleston Southern saw four Bucs finish the contest with double figures, led by Chavez's 22. Harris Jr. was not far behind with 20 of his own as he continues to shine at high levels in big games for the Bucs. Taje' Kelly and Tyeree Bryan each had 10 in the affair, as Kelly's 10 marks the third-straight context the big man has found double figures.

UP NEXT
The Bucs will hit the road for its next affair, as a trip to Clinton, S.C. for a Big South affair with Presbyterian comes Saturday, January 7. The action is set for an early 2:00 p.m. tip at the Templeton Center.
