Tuesday twinbill in Conway next for softball

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern softball will look to get back the win column Tuesday afternoon when it travels to Conway for a doubleheader against Coastal Carolina. The two in-state, former conference rivals, will square off with first pitch slated for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.

WEEKEND RECAP
The Buccaneers earned one win among the three-game series with Campbell at CSU Softball Complex to begin Big South play, leaving the weekend with a 9-12 overall and 1-2 league ledger. Both teams scored nine runs in the combined three games with the Bucs tallying a 4-1 triumph in the opener Saturday behind a standout complete-game performance in the circle by Annah Junge.

LEWIS RETURNS TO SPARK OFFENSE
Raleigh Lewis was back over the weekend, making her return from injury by leading the squad with a .400 batting average, 1.355 OPS and .900 slugging percentage. She belted the team's only home run and added two doubles as part of nine total bases, while also scoring twice and driving in two.

MECKLEY CONTINUES HIT STREAK
Shortstop Ashley Meckley joined Lewis as the only CSU players with a hit in every game against the Camels. The run extended her current hit streak to six, dating back to the start of the Mercer series March 5. She is hitting .368 (7-of-19) over that span, scoring three times with one run batted in.

GOING THE DISTANCE, TIMES THREE
Each of the three games over the weekend versus Campbell saw the starting pitcher for the Buccaneers also finish the game. Junge tallied two complete games, while the middle contest of the series, Sunday's game one of the doubleheader, put Blake Holtorf in the circle for the full eight innings.

SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS
Coastal Carolina owns a 10-11 overall and 1-2 Sun Belt record entering Tuesday's twinbill. The Chanticleers salvaged the final game of their league-opening weekend series with Troy, picking up a 4-3 triumph, after dropping the first-two contests.

SERIES HISTORY
The two former Big South foes have played 106 times since they first met, as Charleston Southern garnered 11-5 and 7-4 wins in a series-opening doubleheader, March 9, 1987, in Conway. The two sides met last spring in the Holy City with the Buccaneers capturing an 8-7 victory in the first game of a March 24 doubleheader at CSU Softball Complex.
