SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball fell on the road to in-state opponent USC Upstate Saturday evening, as a late comeback bid ran out of time for the Bucs. The Spartans were able to hang on for the 70-57 victory at the G.B Hodge Center for their second-straight win over CSU for the first time in the series.
JUST OUT OF TIME
Sadarius Bowser and
Tahlik Chavez made things interesting down the stretch for the Bucs, as the duo combined for the final 14 Charleston Southern points. CSU finished the game on a 12-2 run after the Bucs held USC Upstate to just 1-7 from the field to close it out.

Bowser finished with a career-high 14 points after an impressive 8-10 mark from the charity strip while also chasing down seven rebounds. Chavez was forced to sit most of the first half due to foul trouble, but came alive down the stretch to finish with a game-high and career mark of 18 points one game removed from trying his mark of 17 in the win over High Point.Â

Chavez found other ways to contribute as well in his big performance, finishing with six boards, two dimes and a steal.
STRONG ON THE GLASSÂ
The Bucs continue to rebound the ball well, especially on the offensive side of the glass after finishing with 10 offensive rebounds in the contest this afternoon. Bowser had five of his seven rebounds come on the offensive side while
Claudell Harris Jr. found three of his team-high eight boards come on the Charleston Southern side of the floor.
HARRIS FILLS THE STAT SHEET
Claudell Harris Jr. continues to put together impressive performance in his debut year, finishing the contest with 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals. His 11-point performance marks the sixth time in the last nine games that the freshman has found double-figures with two of those games resulting in 18 points apiece.
CONVERTING FROM THE STRIPE
Charleston Southern found itself at the charity stripe often this afternoon, converting 17 of its 24 attempts, including a 13-18 clip in the closing stanza. Bowser led the way from the stripe, as the career-66% shooter from the free throw line made eight of his 10 attempts and Chavez followed by making three of four.Â

The Bucs return home for a two-game stand as they host Presbyterian Wednesday, January 26 and Hampton Saturday, January 29. The Presbyterian clash is set for a 7:00 p.m. tip inside the Buc Dome in front of the home fans.
