CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Brooklynn Brewington picked a good time for her first hit of Friday night's contest.
The junior infielder hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th, scoring
Ashley Meckley in the process, as Charleston Southern defeated Radford in extra innings, 5-4, at the CSU Softball Field.
CSU took an early 2-0 lead on a Radford throwing error and a
Madison Koger RBI single up the middle. The visiting Highlanders plated three in the third to take a 3-2 lead, but the Bucs tied the game in the fifth when Brewington reached on another Radford error.
Neither team scored another run until extra innings, when Radford's Destiny Freeman hit a solo homer over the wall in center to give the Highlanders a 4-3 lead in the eight. The Bucs tied the game once more in the bottom half of the inning on a
Sarah Brown sacrifice fly before Brewington's base hit three innings later ended it.
Alyssa Heinrich picked up the win for the Bucs, allowing one hit in three innings of relief.
