Highlanders sweep Saturday doubleheader from Bucs

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Visiting Radford used an offensive outburst in Saturday's first game and strong pitching in the second game, as the Highlanders swept a doubleheader from Charleston Southern at the CSU Softball Field.

The Highlanders scored three in the first, four in the fourth and seven in the sixth to take the first game, 14-1, and used a four-run first inning to take the second game, 5-3.

Ashley Meckley provided the Bucs' lone run of the opening game with a solo homer to left center in the bottom of the sixth, her third of the season. The Bucs got early offense in the second game with a two-run single off the bat of Sarah Brown in the first and added another run on a Brooklynn Brewington RBI infield single in the fifth, but Radford's pitching staff limited the Bucs to just 10 hits across the two games.

Baylee Eaton got the start in the circle in the first game of the doubleheader, allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Alyssa Heinrich started the second game and allowed five runs in 4.0 innings, striking out three. Annah Junge tossed 3.0 no-hit innings in relief in the back end of the doubleheader.
