Bucs Take One on Second Day of Charleston Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern softball team picked up their second victory of the Charleston Invitational before dropping their night game to Ohio University. 

HOW IT HAPPENED | CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 7, NC CENTRAL 5 
 
BOTTOM OF THE FIRST
  • Freshman Katelyn Norris led things off for the Bucs with a single through the left side.
  • Norris advanced to second after Brooklynn Brewington laid down a bunt to put two on and nobody out.
  • Norris would cross home plate after advancing on a wild pitch followed up by a throwing error on the catcher.
TOP OF THE SECOND
  • NC Central plated a run in the second after an RBI single from Joiera Dumas.
BOTTOM OF THE SECOND
  • Rhiana Hubbard led things off in the third for the Bucs with a solo shot to right field.
  • This was the first home run of the year for the team and gave them a 2-1 lead.
BOTTOM OF THE THIRD
  • Brewington picked up her second hit of the day with a single up the middle.
  • Sarah Brown tallied her first triple of the year with a shot to left field.
  • Mallory Kasinger stepped into the box and blasted her first home run of the year to plate two runs.
BOTTOM OF THE FOURTH
  • Summer Moore started things off in the fourth with a single to first base and was moved to second on a Madie Koger single. 
  • Brewington picked up her third hit of the day to load the bases.
  • Sarah Brown continued her hit streak with a single to left to score a pair of runs.
TOP OF THE SIXTH 
  • NC Central plated four runs in the inning on three hits with one error committed by CSU.
BOTTOM OF THE SIXTH
  • Kasinger added an insurance run for the Bucs by recording a RBI single to left field.
Annah Junge would close out the game and get the save while Holly Clark got the win improving to 1-0 on the year. In the win, Clark picked up seven strikeouts in 24 batters faced. 

Ohio University 5, Charleston Southern 2
In the second game of the day, the Bucs would fall to Ohio University by a final score of 8-2. In the loss, Madison Koger picked up a RBI triple with a knock to the right field fence. Brewington would also pick up an RBI on a fielder's choice. 

Charleston Southern will face close out the Charleston Invitational tomorrow against Army at 1 p.m. at the CSU Softball Field.
