CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team started off the first day of competition in the Charleston Invitational 1-1 with a win over North Carolina A&T and a loss at the hands of Appalachian State.
In the first game against NC A&T, the Bucs run ruled the Aggies by a final score of 11-1 with
Annah Junge getting the win in the circle. Junge pitched all five innings giving up three hits and one unearned run.
Offensively for CSU,
Ashlyn Cribb and
Rhiana Hubbard each recorded a pair of hits. Hubbard singled through the right side in the second to score Cribb and pick up her first of two RBIs in the win. Her second RBI came in the bottom of the fourth when she singled through the left side to score
Heather Carver.
Madison Koger and
Emily Crosby recorded the lone extra-base hits with doubles to opposite sides of the field.
The Bucs recorded a season high seven hits, nine RBIs and five drawn walks.Â
Charleston Southern fell to Appalachian State in the night time game by a final score of 2-0 after the Mountaineers scored a pair of unearned runs.
Alyssa Heinrich went the complete game only giving up four hits in 30 batters faced.
Sarah Brown picked up the teams only hits going 2-for-3 with two singles.Â
The team will return to the field tomorrow to continue the Charleston Invitational with games against North Carolina Central (4:45pm) and Ohio University (7pm).
