Softball Newcomers: Part One

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team has an incoming class of six that are ready to make an immediate impact on the program under the direction of head coach Venus Taylor. The first trio of Bucs consist of Ashlyn Cribb, Annah Junge and Emily Crosby.

Ashlyn Cribb signs with Charleston Southern by way ofHanahan High School. The 5-5 right-handed catcher also lined up for the Carolina Fire travel ball team. Cribb was named the Female Athlete of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year for the Hawks. Cribb was also three-time All-State and named to the North South All Star team in 2019 after boasting a .402 hitting average. Cribb is the daughter of Teri and JohnnyCribband will be majoring in kinesiology.

Ashlyn is a player who has tremendous passion for the game and has the ability to add a lot of power to our lineup. We expect to see Ashlyn primarily behind the dish as she is fundamentally sound and has done a great job building relationships with our pitching staff. Her upbeat personality and desire to be great make her an instant asset to our team.

Annah Junge comes to Charleston Southern by way of Marquette High School, located in Ballwin, Missouri. The 5-7 right-handed pitcher also lined up for the St. Louis Chaos travel ball team under the guidance of Kim Slover. Junge spent her high school career garnering several awards:

  • 3x All District
  • 3x All Conference
  • 3x Pitcher of the Year
  • 3x All State
  • 3x MVP 
  • 2x Defensive Player of the Year
     

Junge guided her team to a state championship in 2017 after going 19-2 with a 1.17 ERA while batting .307 on the year. She is first in school history with career wins (58), strikeouts (687) and winning percentage (.892) after only losing seven games in her career. Daughter of Gayle and Curt Junge, Annah will be majoring in chemistry.

We are expecting great things from Annah in the circle as she does a great job of mixing speeds and hitting her spots. She has an innate ability to compete and finish hitters and we are looking forward to her making an impact on the program over the next four years.

Emily Crosby joins the Bucs after spending four years at Battery Creek High School in Beaufort, S.C. The 5-4 infielder also lined up for the Badkatz travel ball team. Crosby was named the MVP of her team as a senior after hitting .500 and tallying eight home runs. Crosby was also named All-State and All-Region over her career as a dolphin. Daughter of Chuck and Tonya Cosby, Emily will be majoring in kinesiology. 

Emily has already shown up her potential in fall practice and we expect her to build on that as the season progresses. Her power is something that is going to really help us offensively this year and we are excited to see all that she can provide for us. We look forward to seeing how she contributes to our lineup and overall success as a team.
