Lady Bucs fall to Radford, 3-0

RADFORD, VA. - Julie Ruh'e scored twice and Sahar Aflaki added a second half goal as Radford topped Charleston Southern in Big South Conference play on Saturday afternoon, 3-0.

Rebecca Hollstegge fired three shots on goal in the game for CSU (5-7-1, 3-3 BSC) as the Lady Bucs fell for just the third time in conference play on the season. Caitlin Cody recorded eight saves on 31 Radford (9-2-1, 5-0-1 BSC) shots in the game as the Highlanders remain undefeated in Big South play.

Radford opened the scoring opportunities in the contest as Aflaki and Ruh'e challenged Cody in the net early, while Toni Lashley fired the first shot on goal for CSU at the 9:26 mark, but it was collected by Che' Brown to keep the game scoreless.

Ruh'e put the first point on the board at the 11:10 mark firing a shot past Cody into the net off the assist from Mary Wiley to put the Highlanders up 1-0.

Hollstegge fired on net twice in the next two minutes, but Brown collected two more saves to keep the score the same before Ruh'e scored her second goal in the contest. Ruh'e fired a shot in from 10 yards out off a deflected cross at the 23:45 mark to double the Radford lead.

Radford outshot CSU 16-4 in the first half, but Cody and the CSU defense kept the Highlanders off the scoreboard the remainder of the period as the Highlanders took the 2-0 lead into the break.

Emma Faubert and Kenandra DeSaussure opened up the second half, firing shots toward the goal, but Brown collected Faubert's attempt, while DeSaussure's attempt went wide as Radford kept the score intact.

Aflaki added a goal for the Highlanders at the 72:28 mark collecting a pass from Kara Nay through the CSU defense on a breakaway. She sent the ball into the net to put the score at 3-0 with under 20 minutes to play in the contest.

Allison Lewis and Hollstegge tried to get CSU on the board in the remaining time, but both shot attempts were saved by Brown. Faubert's final shot attempt at the 89:04 mark was blocked by the Radford defense as the Lady Bucs fell 3-0 to the Highlanders.

Charleston Southern remains on the road and in Big South Conference play as CSU travels to Clinton, S.C. on Thursday, October 11th to take on Presbyterian College. Kickoff between the Lady Bucs and the Blue Hose is set for 7 p.m.
