ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's soccer team opened Big South play in impressive fashion Saturday evening, shutting out Winthrop, 2-0, at Eagle Field. The Buccaneers received goals from Danika Birch and Amélie Boyle to secure their first conference victory of the season.

After a scoreless opening half, Birch broke the deadlock in the 51st minute. A perfect pass from Jillian Brown setup Birch as she collected her third goal of the season to give the Bucs a 1-0 advantage.

CSU continued to control the match defensively, limiting Winthrop to just five shots and no shots on goal. Avery Mason recorded the shutout in goal without needing to make a save, while the Buccaneers' defense kept the Eagles off the scoreboard.

With just two seconds remaining in regulation, Boyle added an insurance goal for the Bucs. Birch set up the play, assisting Boyle on her first career goal at the 89:58 mark to cap the 2-0 victory.
