Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern senior Kimberly Hobbs (Columbus, Ga.) has been named the Big South Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played from April 11-17, as announced by League officials today. Winthrop pitcher/designated player Chelsey Schoenfeldt (Golden Lake, Ontario) earns the Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week.

Hobbs pitched six scoreless innings of relief during CSU's sweep of two games at Winthrop Sunday, April 17. During those six innings, she struck out 12 batters against just one walk, holding batters to a .190 average. She earned her first save of the season in game one Sunday, striking out seven batters while allowing four hits in three innings. She then pitched the final three innings to earn the win in the second game. Hobbs holds an 11-11 record, tying her victory total from last season.

The Columbus, Ga., native has surpassed the 100 strikeout plateau, and now leads the Big South with 106 K's on the season. Hobbs and teammate Morgan Dowdy are the first pair of CSU pitchers to fire 100 or more strikeouts in the same season.

Schoenfeldt extended her hitting streak to 15 games, with a .533 batting average, three runs, eight hits, four RBI, two doubles, two home runs and a slugging percentage of 1.133 in five games last week. She didn't strike out in 15 at-bats and registered an on-base percentage of .588. Schoenfeldt started the week going 4-for-4 with a career-high in hits, to help the Eagles to defeat Gardner-Webb in a doubleheader. In the first game of the twin bill, she pitched a complete game allowing three runs in the win.

Both of the Buccaneers primary starting pitchers have now earned Big South Pitcher of the Week once this season. Morgan Dowdy was named pitcher of the week Feb. 14 after pitching her first collegiate complete-game shutout.

The Buccaneers (19-27, 6-5 Big South) conclude their conference series at Winthrop Monday, April 18 at 5 p.m. CSU won both games against the Eagles on Sunday, and will look to end the away portion of the schedule on a winning note.
