CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern men's basketball Head
Coach Barclay Radebaugh provides perspective on CSU's 76-71 win
over Presbyterian College Thursday, Jan. 13.
Coach Radebaugh
On Presbyterian's late charge:
"Credit to them; they hit some tough shots. Wow, those are
highly-contested, deep threes, and credit to them. They just kept
coming at it and coming at it. Defensively we made a lot of good
plays down the stretch, and made them take 25, 26-foot threes with
a hand in their face, and they hit them. So, I mean, we were in our
switching man-to-man defense, and it's designed to make them take
those shots, and credit them. They did a good job of making those
shots."
On the Buccaneers' offensive execution toward the end of the
game:
"On the offensive end, I thought we made some pretty shaky
decisions down the stretch that potentially could have cost us the
game. We have to make smarter plays than that; we're a better
basketball team than that, and we've made smarter plays than that.
With the ball in your hand, you don't throw alley-oops, and you
just make sound, fundamental plays."
On the continued strong play of forwards Kelvin Martin and
Kenny Mitchell:
"Yeah, they're really tough inside, and, you know, they give
us a lot of power in there. Kelvin's just relentless. You know,
several times when the lead shrunk and we missed a shot, Kelvin
went and got it, and allowed us to use the shot clock a little bit
more and get some further attempts. And then Kenny just played, you
know, we have the ability to throw it inside, and that makes us
pretty tough to guard."
On facing a PC team playing without Al'Lonzo Coleman:
"Yeah, we knew their guards, you know, watching; we found the
film where he (Coleman) got in foul trouble. We watched how they
played with him in foul trouble, and they become more guard
oriented. Johnson and Khalid really, really try to take over, and
they did that. Then Pierre just played terrific. You know, his
hesitation threes are just tough to guard because he can also go by
you. So, we knew that they would become more perimeter oriented, or
we thought that they would. We knew that we didn't have to double
the post, and so they did become more perimeter oriented and did a
good job."
On the team's upcoming game against Winthrop:
"We still won on the road against VMI. We have to protect our
home court. You know, we got a big time opponent coming in, you
know, the dominant team in the Big South over the past decade with
Coach Peele and Coach Marshall, is coming into our place. We know
it's going to be a battle, and I have tremendous respect for Coach
Peele and his staff and their program. We know we're playing, you
know, when they come in the gym, you know you're playing the best.
And so it will be a real challenge for us with their size and their
strength, but one that I think our team is up to."
