CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern dropped game three of the season series vs. the Winthrop Eagles, after an 11-0 five inning loss Saturday, at Buccaneer Field. The Bucs committed six errors for the game, while 10 of the 11 runs scored were unearned. With the loss, CSU dropped to 23-23-1 and 7-8 in the Big South, while Winthrop improved to 23-18 with a 6-5 mark in conference play.

After combining for 22 hits in the first two games of the series, the Bucs had just five in game three, en route to the shutout. Megan Hall was the only CSU player to have a multi hit game, going two for three at the plate. The Eagles were paced by Taylor Wright, who posted three hits, three runs scored and one RBI.

Winthrop got going early and often, taking advantage of a CSU error to score three runs on two hits. A fly out started the inning, before a fielding error put one on with one out. An RBI walk scored the first run, followed by a Brittany Stoudemire two RBI single that made it an early 3-0 advantage.

Both teams posted a blank inning in the second, before the Eagles added one more in the top of the third. Another error started off the inning, with Veronica Berrie reaching on a CSU miscue. Back-to-back singles from there allowed Berrie to score, giving Winthrop a 4-0 lead.

The Eagles continued to roll, scoring two more in the top of the fourth after three hits and one error in the inning. Pearl Coleshill had a one-out single, followed by a Wright single and Buccaneer error, which scored the first run. Berrie posted an RBI hit from there, to make it a 6-0 advantage.

After recording just one hit through the first three innings, the best scoring opportunity for the Bucs came in the bottom of the fourth. Kristin Kelleher and Jana Matthews tallied back-to-back singles with one out, and both advanced in to scoring position on a groundout. CSU couldn't come up with a timely hit however, as the inning ended with another groundout.

Winthrop looked to put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth, posting five runs on three hits and three Buccaneer errors. After a pair of errors and hits scored the first two runs, Berrie had the only RBI hit of the inning to make it a 9-0 score. The top of the fifth was capped off by another CSU error that scored two runs, putting the Eagles on top 11-0.

The Bucs couldn't manage any runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game, despite back-to-back hits from Hall and Megan Lombard. CSU took a 2-1 series win, after the final 11-0 win for Winthrop.

Cari Wooldridge took the win to improve to 13-9 on the season, after allowing just five hits in a complete game shutout. Sondra Vetter picked up the loss and dropped to 8-13, after allowing five hits and four unearned runs in two innings of work.

CSU will step out of conference play for a midweek doubleheader, when they welcome the College of Charleston Cougars for a pair of games, starting on Wednesday, April 21, at 2 p.m.
