Postgame Quotes - Men's Basketball vs. Georgia Tech

Box Score

ATLANTA, Ga. - Coach Barclay Radebaugh and senior guard Jamarco Warren's thoughts on a 52-39 loss at Georgia Tech to start the 2010-11 season.

Head Coach Barclay Radebaugh
On the defense
Well I'll give you the positives first. We held an ACC school to 28 percent from the floor, we created 14 turnovers and held them to 52 points. Defensively, I thought we were tremendous. Our rotations, our pressure on the ball and our change in defense was outstanding. I was very pleased with our effort and how hard we played. I thought our chemistry and our camaraderie and our expectation to win was very positive.

On the offensive struggles
The negative was obviously on the offensive end. This is the third time this year that we have struggled offensively, including two of our scrimmages and tonight was a mighty struggle. I think we are moving too fast. Our execution was not up to our standards and what we are producing in practice. Some of that credit goes to Georgia Tech but a lot of it was unforced. I've never had a team have 29 turnovers. I will have to go back and look at the film but I would guess that half of our turnovers were unforced. I saw it in two exhibitions our offensive struggles and we are going to have to find a flow. But I'm thrilled about where we are defensively and the amount of pressure we were able to put on Georgia Tech and the amount of pressing we were able to do against Georgia Tech. That's a well-coached team, obviously a great coach with highly-recruited athletes. This is a building block and I'm excited about where we can get this team.

On giving up big runs to start each half
To open the game we go down 10-0, and then in second half they go on 10-0- run. Those are our veterans in the game. Those are our most experienced guys and those are the guys that we have deemed as starters in the game, and with that group in the game it's a 20-0 run if you count both runs. I think maybe we were too excited but we just didn't have the offensive flow that I have seen in practice from this team. Tremendous effort and tremendous fight and defensively I'm just ecstatic with the effort.

On the play of his newcomers
I thought Johathan played really well, very hard, and I thought that Sheldon Strickland, a freshman, accounted well for himself and was fearless with execution and his intensity defensively was outstanding and that bodes well for him to play in his first game. Speaks to the fact that he potentially will be a very solid player here.

Senior Guard Jamarco Warren
On returning to Georgia
It has been great to come back. Obviously the game didn't go the way that we had planned and we have a lot of work to do to get better when we get back to Charleston.

On this year's team
I think we have all the pieces in place to be a very good team. We have to get the chemistry right and then we will make a run at this thing. Today showed us that we have a great defense and on the offensive end we have some work to do.
