CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern played their final game of the regular season and saw off their six seniors against the Radford Highlanders Saturday, at Buccaneer Field. The Bucs matched the Highlanders run for run at first, but Radford eventually took control with 14 hits en route to a 5-2 score. CSU dropped to 24-31 on the year with a 7-11 mark in the Big South while Radford improved to 33-12 and 15-2 in the conference. With the win, Radford clinches the number one seed in the conference tournament and sets a record for Big South wins.

Megan Hall posted a two hit two RBI game, leading the way for the Bucs. Amy Trenkamp, Megan Lombard and Jamie Wellons also posted two hits apiece. Senior Brittany Giannini chipped in with one hit and one run scored.

It looked like the Highlanders might jump out to a big first inning again, with two singles to start the game. Sondra Vetter started in the circle and came away with a big strikeout with two in scoring position. A groundout ended the inning with no damage done and two stranded on base.

The Bucs put the lead-off runner on in the bottom of the first thanks to an error by Radford. The next three batters were retired in order however, preventing the score. A three and out inning in the second led to a run scored for each team in the third.

A pair of singles and a stolen base scored the run for the Highlanders, but CSU fired back with a run of their own. Two singles from Giannini and Lombard put the runners on and Hall capped the inning off with an RBI single.

Radford tallied a run for the second consecutive inning using another three hits in the fourth. It looked like the Bucs might have the answer again, with a lead-off double followed by a walk. After a sac bunt advanced the runners, two strikeouts helped the Highlanders hold on the 2-1 lead.

Three more runs were tallied in the fifth for Radford, thanks to back-to-back homers along with an RBI single. The bottom of the fifth brought up another two on with no outs situation for CSU. Lombard was hit by a pitch before Trenkamp posted a single to start. Two outs would follow but the bases were loaded after Wellons reached on an single. A groundout ended the inning and again prevented any runs from scoring

CSU wasn't done yet, as they rallied in the bottom of the seventh to score a run on three hits. Hall recorded her second RBI of the day with a single to center field, but it was too little too late. The game ended with a 5-2 score after the Bucs stranded two on base, making 10 left on base for the game.

CSU will now have a break before they travel to the Big South Tournament, hosted at Radford starting May 7th.
