Brandon Gilbert returned to the Charleston Southern athletic staff in January 2020 as the Director of Strength and Conditioning. He oversees all areas of the department and is in charge of the operation of the CSU Athletic Performance Center.

Among his responsibilities include managing the day-to-day operations of the 8,000-square-foot facility that features state-of-the-art Sorinex equipment and amenities. He also handles the nutrition center featuring grab-and-go items, as well as various healthy food options for the student-athletes throughout the day. He also implements leadership development programs for athletes and educates on nutrition and daily habits.

Prior to his return to CSU, Gilbert served as the Assistant Director of Football Strength, Speed, and Conditioning from May 2019-January 2020 at Coastal Carolina University. He was the top assistant for the football strength and conditioning program and developed program design for the offensive and defensive lines, as well as incoming freshmen and non-travel players. He also assisted the Coastal Carolina football special teams coordinator on game days with organizing alignments.

Gilbert served as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at CSU from August 2017-May 2019, and added the Interim Director title in the spring of 2019 during his previous stint with the Buccaneers. During his time with CSU, he oversaw program design and implementation with the Bucs baseball, softball, track & field, and cheerleading programs. He also headed up the Nutritional Operations and designed programs for the non-travel and freshman football players.

Gilbert came to the Buccaneers after a year-long work experience at Indiana University where he served as a part-time Athletic Assistant Performance Coach working primarily with the football program. He also assisted with the program design for a majority of the Hoosiers athletic programs, while also helping with the day-to-day in Nutrition Operations, Facility Maintenance, and Music Operations.

He began his strength and conditioning coaching path with internships at both Furman University (2016) and Byrnes High School (2015-16), while also serving as a Student-Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at USC Upstate.

Gilbert graduated from USC Upstate in December 2015 with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science (Strength & Conditioning Concentration).
