Aaron Coeling joined Autry Denson’s staff in 2019 as the offensive line coach. He came to CSU after a two-year stint at Notre Dame as an offensive graduate assistant. He was promoted to assistant head coach in 2020.
The Bucs continued to make strides in his second season. Led by Big South All-Conference First Team selection Daviyon McDaniel, CSU’s offense averaged 347.5 total offensive yards per game with a conference-high 251.0 passing yards per contest. The Bucs recoded three games with at least 240 passing yards, while CSU finished the season with back-to-back 100-yard rushing contests.
Coeling’s first season leading the offensive line saw the Bucs put two players on the Big South All-Conference Second Team in guards Zack Evans and Stephen Haralambis. Coeling’s unit helped pave the way for CSU to post the third-most total offensive yards in CSU history (4,341), while posting 152.8 rushing yards and 208.9 passing yards per game. The Bucs put together three 200-plus yard rushing games, while leading four individuals to recording 100-yard rushing efforts in the 2019 season.
The Fighting Irish went 22-4 in the two seasons Coeling was with the team. Notre Dame also had an even 10 NFL draft picks in those two years.
Prior to ND, Coeling spent two years as an offensive graduate assistant at Miami (Ohio) University. He assisted George Barnett with the Redhawks offensive line.
Coeling graduated from Wittenberg University in 2014 with a degree in business marketing and sport management. He started all four years on the offensive line for the Tigers from 2011-2014. A three-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection and three-time all-region nominee, Coeling was as named a third-team All-American as a junior in 2013. During his playing career, Wittenberg finished with a 37-8 record and won the NCAC Championship three times.
