Bucs Fall on Tuesday at College of Charleston

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston defeated Charleston Southern by a 7-5 final score on Tuesday evening in a midweek contest.
 
The Cougars were the first team to get on the board courtesy of a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. Charleston Southern tallied their first of the game in the third off a Tyler Wright single to center field. In the fourth, Wright had a two RBI single through the right side to take the lead at 3-2. Marot followed it with an RBI single of his own to push the lead to 4-2.
 
The College of Charleston immediately answered in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI triple got the action started and was followed by an RBI groundout, tying the game at four apiece.
 
Gavin Spiers doubled to right field to give Charleston Southern back the lead in the seventh at 5-4. The hosts responded once again with an RBI single and sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-5 advantage. They tacked on another in the eighth off an RBI single through the right.
 
As a team, the Buccaneers finished with 16 hits and had Wright and Marot lead them with three hits apiece. Garrison Barile, Lucas Pringle and Blake Edgmon all picked up a pair of hits as well. Wright led the team with three RBIs with Marot and Speirs each adding one.
 
Aydan Smith started on the mound for the Bucs and threw the first two innings allowing a pair. Zach Stichweh was the first out of the bullpen and threw three frames and did not allow an earned run to score. Kayden Althoff worked the next 1.2, followed by Hayden Henry with 1.0 and Drew Dawson with the final out.
 
Charleston Southern is back in action this weekend to take on UNC Asheville. The road series will begin on Friday evening with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. with the game to be available live on ESPN+.
