Charleston Southern Splits Doubleheader with Bowling Green

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston Southern softball team split the doubleheader with Bowling Green on Friday evening, falling 4-1 in game one before bouncing back for a 4-1 victory in game two.

GAME ONE

With two outs in the first inning, Jordyn Dimond doubled down the left field line but was left stranded. 

Charlee Yourman singled to left field in the second inning. Cadence Walding then reached on a fielder's choice, with Yourman thrown out on the play. Walding was later left on base.

Blakley Kingsmore recorded a single in the third before stealing her 13th stolen base of the season, but the Bucs were unable to bring her home.

Yourman picked up another base hit in the fourth and Walding once again reached on a fielder's choice, but Charleston Southern remained scoreless. 

Emma Villaescusa led off the fifth with a single to center field, and Kingsmore followed with another single to center, advancing Villaescusa into scoring position. Jordyn Dimond reached on a fielder's choice, but the Bucs ended the inning with no runs. 

Charleston Southern finally broke through in the sixth inning. Carsten Sandvig doubled to left field before Yourman recorded her third single of the night. Youman later advanced to second on the throw that allowed Sandvig to score, putting the Bucs on the board. 

Despite out hitting the Falcons, Charleston Southern was unable to overcome the deficit.

Brenna Conley threw a complete game for the Buccaneers allowing four runs with one strikeout.

GAME TWO

In the first inning, Jordyn Dimon singled down the left field line but was caught stealing.

Charlee Yourman starting things off in the second with a single to left field. Emma Smith followed with a double to right center, advancing Yourman to third. Harper Schoeneweis kept things going, getting a base hit of her own, bringing Yourman home to score. Schoeneweis stole second and Smith scored. Lorenzza Marcacci added a sacrifice RBI to bring Schoeneweis home, giving Charleston Southern a 3-0 lead.

Sandvig singled through the right side in the third inning and later stole second but was left stranded.

Marcacci doubled to right field in the fifth inning before a sacrifice bunt from Villaescusa moved her to third. Kingsmore then drove in Marcacci with a sacrifice RBI, extending the Bucs' lead 4-0.

Bowling Green got on the board in the top of the sixth. Smith singled to center field and Maddie Lee entered as a pinch runner. Lee advanced to second on a wild pitch. Schoeneweis later singled to right field and stole second, but both runners were left on base.

Kinsey Clopton threw all seven innings for the Bucs, allowing four hits and one run with four strikeouts.

UP NEXT

The Buccaneers conclude the series with Bowling Green tomorrow March 7 at 2:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
