Von Kapff Complete Game Not Enough in Series Opener at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Charleston Southern dropped their series opener at Winthrop on Friday night by a final score of 4-0. The Bucs' Titus Von Kapff threw a complete game becoming the first pitcher on the staff to accomplish the feat since RJ Petit in 2021.

The Eagles' Grant McGuire and Jaylen Hernandez tallied solo home runs in the second and fourth innings to get out to an early 2-0 lead. Also in the fourth, they had a two RBI triple by Gabe Natividad to push their lead to 4-0 which proved to be the final score.

Von Kapff started on the mound for the Bucs and threw 8.0 inning for a complete game. He allowed nine hits, one walk, a hit by pitch, four earned runs and struck out eight batters.

At the plate, Lucas Pringle led the team with two hits while Alex Marot and Nathan Martinez each had one as well. Additionally, the squad drew three walks and a hit by pitch. Their best scoring chances came in the second when they had runners on the corners and in the ninth when a play at the plate got a potential run out.

The two teams will return to Founders Park on Saturday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. The game will be available live on ESPN+.
