RALEIGH, N.C. – #12 N.C. State defeated Charleston Southern by a final score of 4-0 on Friday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Team Championships. The Buccaneers battled all afternoon with the Wolfpack, claiming a trio of sets.
The day began with N.C. State claiming the doubles point off victories on the second and third courts. They got their first result on court #2 by a 6-1 scoreline followed by a 6-3 result on court #3. The topflight went unfinished with the #7 ranked doubles pairing leading 5-2 when the match was declared unfinished.
In singles, the Buccaneers were able to fight all afternoon with the Wolfpack, pushing them to the test. They claimed a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory on court #3 which was followed by a long-drawn out fight on #5 which ended 6-3, 6-2 to push the scoreline to 3-0, a point away from clinching the victory. Each of these opponents entered the match ranked tied for #110 nationally in singles.
Each of the other four matches were able to see Charleston Southern push the nationally ranked opponents. They clinched the win on the #2 court at 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 over
Marina Skegro. In the others matches,
Emmie Moore and
Amila Jusufbegovic claimed the second sets in their matches on courts #1 and #5. Jusufbegovic was also leading in third set 5-3 when the match was clinched.
Kassandra Di Staulo nearly took the first set, but dropped it 7-6 in a tiebreaker.
The result ends the 2025 season for the Buccaneers with them having a record of 17-5. They claimed both the Big South Regular Season Championship and Tournament Championship, earning their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2023.
