Baseball Blows Past Presbyterian 17-2 on Saturday to Even Weekend Series

CLINTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern took the second game of the weekend over Presbyterian by a final score of 17-2 to even the series on Saturday.
 
The Buccaneers got an early lead with a Chandler Tuupo RBI groundout to score Kain Collins for the first run of the day in the top of the first. In the second, Charleston Southern went on to break the game open by tallying five. Kaden Smith had an RBI single, followed by a Chandler Tuupo two RBI double and an AJ Martin RBI single to left to score another. The final run was scored with Martin and Aidan McAskie having a double steal. Another was tallied in the top of the third with Smith singling through the left side to score Lew Rice.
 
Presbyterian got their two runs on the day in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit down to 7-2. This ended the Bucs' run of seven unanswered but was quickly followed by ten runs that went unanswered.
 
In the fifth, the Bucs put up four runs. Collins had a triple to score Edgmon to get the action going. He was brought home on a Smith home run to left which had a Martin solo home run to left center follow it shortly after.
 
In the seventh, Lucas Pringle had a two RBI double and Rice had an RBI double to score him. In the ninth, the Bucs finished off their damage with a Gavin Bogdanchik RBI single and a Blake Edgmon two-run home run.
 
On the mound, Parks Ledwell had the start and tossed the first two innings. He allowed the two runs and gave up three hits, issuing no walks or hit batters. Ryan DuSang tossed a scoreless 2.0 frames of work, allowing just one hit. Camden Chalfant finished off the day by hurling the final five, allowing just two hits and two walks after facing 20 batters.
 
As a team, the Bucs finished with 16 hits to go with eight walks and two hit batters for a total of 26 baserunners. Rice led the team with four hits with Smith adding three and Martin having two. Smith, Martin and Edgmon each had a home run while Collins had a triple. Rice finished with a pair of doubles while Pringle, Tuupo and Tyler Wright each had one. Smith led the team in RBIs with four on the day with Tuupo adding three while Pringle and Edgmon each had two. There were seven stolen bases recorded by the Buccaneers as well, with nearly each starter in the lineup picking up one.
 
The teams return to the PC Baseball Complex on Sunday for the rubber match of the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the game to be available live on ESPN+ with the winner claiming the series victory as the regular season is approaching its end.
