Catherine Alben Lands on First-Team All-Big South List

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - As the regular season winds down, the Big South Conference announced their women's basketball All-Conference recipients on Monday, and Catherine Alben was awarded First-Team All-Conference.

Alben had high expectations coming into her junior season, and she did not disappoint, as she was second overall in the conference averaging 16.6 points per game overall and 19.3 points per game in conference play.

Alben has put together one of the best seasons in school history as she finished the regular season with 465 points, which is tied for 11th in school history. She scored her 1,000-career point on Jan. 29 and has 1,159 points for her career. She was second in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 44.5% from the field in 15 conference games.

Alben had nine games this season where she scored 20+ points, including seven in conference play and four-straight games in the month of February. This is her first time in her career receiving first-team recognition, and it is the second year in a row that Charleston Southern has had a first-team recipient. Kennedi Jackson represented the Buccaneers in 2023-24. This is the first time that Charleston Southern has had a player make the First-Team All-Big South team for two years in a row since doing it three years in a row from 1997-00.

Alba Garcia represents Charleston Southern on the Big South All-Academic team. In the classroom, she is maintaining a 3.62 GPA while majoring in Kinesiology with clinical emphasis. She is also minoring in biology. For the fall of 2024, she made Dean's List with a 3.9 GPA. She has appeared in 18 games for the Buccaneers this season.

After finishing with 10 wins in conference play, the Buccaneers have earned the fourth seed in the Big South Tournament this week in Johnson City, TN. They will take on No. 5 Winthrop on Thursday at 2:00 PM inside Freedom Hall Civic Center.
