COLUMBIA – Men's Track and Field competed at South Carolina's Weems Baskin Invitational. A pair of school records fell at the meet in the throwing events to highlight the day's performances.
Aaron Pierce threw a personal best and broke his school record in the javelin with a mark of 65.04m. His throw placed him second in the event at the meet. Additionally, in the javelin,
Landry Polk threw for a career best 56.11m which keeps him at third in school history for the event and finish in eighth at the meet.
Michael Calhoun was the other standout performer for the Buccaneers, throwing an outdoor career best in the shot put. His best throw of the day was 17.88m, which breaks his own school record and moves him into a tie for sixth in Big South history. He placed second at the meet for the event. He also took third in the hammer throw as he went for 50.82m.
Odin Ferency and
Kasey Brown each threw in the shot put and discus. Ferency claimed third in the discus with a personal best of 45.09m and went for 15.48m in the shot put. Brown took fifth in the shot put with a 14.40m mark and went for 37.37m in the discus.
The Buccaneers also fielded a quarter of runners in mid distance events.
Collin Kleinhen ran a season best in the 800m with a 1:55.00 and a 3:58.42 in the 1500m, his career debut in the event, claiming top four placements in each.
Liam O'Donnell ran a career best in the 1500m with his 3:56.56 to take fourth in the event.
Kaden Kleinhen ran in both events with
Zech Prater running in the 800m.
Charleston Southern will be back in action next weekend with them traveling to Raleigh, North Carolina. They will be competing in N.C. State's Raleigh Relays which is scheduled to be held from March 27-29.
