CHARLESTON – Men's Track and Field began their 2025 outdoor season at their CSU Buc Open on Friday with the distance and throws squads in action at the meet.
In the discus,
Michael Calhoun was the top finisher from the Bucs with a best throw of 45.75m for a personal best. The mark ranks tied for 10
th all-time in school history.
In the hammer,
Odin Ferency claimed second place with a personal best throw of 43.14m.
Aaron Pierce and
Kasey Brown each recorded best throws of 41.59m at the meet as well.
For the javelin,
Aaron Pierce won the event with a day's best throw of 63.14m, just a meter shy of his career best which is the school record.
Landry Polk also threw it in and had a personal best of 54.71m which ranks third in school history, moving him up two spots on the school's leaderboard.
The last event of the throws was the shot put with Calhoun claiming the win with a day's best of 17.59m. Ferency had a career day going for 16.05m in the event to move into a tie for fourth in school history for the event.
The top race of the day for the Bucs came in the 1500m with each of the five entrees running sub-four minute times.
Jaden Kingsley,
Griffin Gillespie and
Mason Raasch also ran personal bests in the event as well, with each taking a top five finish. Kingsley's time of 3:46.80 and Gillespie's of 3:47.23 rank within the top ten in school history, coming in at 6
th and 7
th all-time.
Another big performance on the track came from
Martin Iriondo in the 5K. He won the race with a time of 14:20.63 to claim seventh in school history for the event.
In the 800m, a trio of freshman ran with Collin and
Kaden Kleinhen leading the group with their times of 1:56.08 and 1:56.14.
Charleston Southern has their next meet scheduled for Friday, March 21 through Saturday, March 22 at the Weems Baskin Invitational on the campus of South Carolina.
